Here's the surprise for the next big dinner. Serve this with a typical Spanish tapas plate and you will understand that this is a sublime combination. The wine is crisp, but with a balanced fruit that makes the wine very versatile.
Robert Parker (#166 August 2006) “2003 Fino en Rama is a fresh, lively, hazelnut-scented cuvee with good underlying acidity as well as wonderful ripeness and zing. It will drink beautifully over the next 6-12 months with rich soups or sushi.”
The Alvear producer is located in the Montilles-Moriles district in southern Spain. Alvear is a family company that is today run by the eighth generation. All generations have contributed with the finest techniques of their time and today you are reaping the fruit of many years of fine work. We are in Andalucia, a region proud of its bulls, horses and agricultural products. The term Tapas originates from this area, originally it was just a slice of dried ham that lay on top of the wine glass to hold the enchanting bouquet from the wine. Since then developed to perfection, with countless variants. The climate is characterized by a transition from a Mediterranean climate to a continental climate, with short cold winters and long very hot summers. A perfect climate for the development of the Pedro Ximenes grape. The wine in the area has traditionally been produced as Sherry, with the exception that the aging has taken place in clay pots rather than wooden barrels. However, the style of the wine is still very reminiscent of Sherry.
A Rama means that the wine is not mixed, it is completely pure without mixing or filtering. As such, it is a unique product, the first Fino from a single vintage. The wine is made from the area's finest grape: Pedro Ximenes and aged for up to two years in large American oak barrels. The style of the wine can be reminiscent of a classic dry Sherry, but stands out with a completely different finesse and elegance in style.
The wine is beautifully green in the glass with an olive green rim. The scent is characterized by salty almonds and dried fruits. The taste is crunchy with a good concentration in the middle of the mouth. Lots of crisp fruit complemented by a long, focused aftertaste.
This is a versatile food partner if you dare. Try it with tapas, sushi, fried fish or salads.
Served at 8 – 10 degrees.
