Calvares Tawny Port
It has a nuttier and sweeter character than the Ruby types. It is a beautiful port wine with a deep red-brown color and a lovely bouquet of ripe fruit, spices and oak. It has a very soft and round taste of strawberries and prunes and a pleasant aftertaste.
Description:
Port wine is a fortified wine - i.e. a mulled wine. When making port wine, alcohol is added to the unfinished wine during fermentation, so that the fermentation stops and some sugar therefore remains in the wine. In this way, the port wine gets a sweet character.
There are generally two types of dark port; Ruby and Tawny. Two English names, (the English have always dominated port wine production) meaning ruby red (ruby) and brownish or yellowish brown respectively. The two types are thus named after the color of the wine, so it is relatively easy to go to.
