In 2012, founders Gustavo and Paula Cucchiara bought the winery Finca San Francisco because they fell in love with the place with its gentle slopes and the view of the mighty Andes. It was also with the clear vision of uniting wine and art and bringing it up to a higher level.

The owners have therefore tried to find the best Argentinian artist for each wine to express each wine type in the new vintage on the labels.

Claroscuro is located on a plateau 1054 m above sea level in the Uco Valley, and the 26 ha are planted with; 16 ha Malbec, 3 ha P. Verdot, 3 ha Cab. Franc and 4 ha of Pinot Noir. Claroscuro is located above an ancient riverbed, which enables the winery to produce its very own style and personality. The great diversity of the soil gives Claroscuro's owners the opportunity to plant each variety so that it gets the very best opportunities to express itself optimally. The wines express the diversity of the microclimate and they have more structure and European DNA than what you otherwise find in Mendoza. Pinot Noir and Cab stand out in particular. Franc himself, and especially the latter, has gained incredible popularity and generates one class wine after another.

The Uco valley starts approx. 1 ½ hours drive southwest of Mendoza, and besides wine, large healthy quantities of; pears, walnuts, almonds and garlic between the picturesque vineyards and it stops first at the foot of the Andes. When the nights cool the area down, the Pumas come out and the mighty Condors soar and probe over the ledges. The climate is moderate but dry Mediterranean climate, with an average annual temperature of approx. 14 c. Largest mountain in Uco is Cerro Tupungato at 6570 m and it is a semi-active volcano and is often seen with a circular smoke ring around the top. Tunyan is the largest city and municipality in Uco built right up to the main road RN 40, but a very ordinary Argentine province without much life.
