The Rias Baixas wine region is located in Galicia - the north-western corner of Spain all the way to the Atlantic Ocean and the climate is characterized by the close location to the sea. Generally speaking, this means wet winters, sea breezes, high rainfall and mild temperatures.

Up to 12 different grapes are grown in Rias Baixas, but the white grape Albarino is clearly the most used and is grown on 90% of the vineyards.

    Characteristics of the grape are:

    • Thick skin, high acidity, mineral, crisp and fine fruit
    • Cold fermented
    • As with champagne long maceration on the lees
    • Sparing cask aging
    • Smell and taste of green apples, grape, lime, apricot

In the last twenty years, the area has developed strongly and is today 10 times as large (237 – 2,408 hectares) as when the wine production came from a group of outdated wineries that produced simple, rough and poorly processed white wines. Since then, the area has developed strongly and is thus today the most recognized area for white wine production in Spain.
