New winery from Emilia Romagna - Fattoria Zerbina
Fattoria Zerbina
It is first and foremost the story of Emilia-Romagna's leading winery for 25 years, but indeed also the story of a region that has produced some of the most famous and most exported foods in Italy for the last 50 years.
Zerbina has been the unknown "locomotive" of Emilia-Romagna for almost 3 decades and the 33 ha just south of Faenza produces distinctive top sangiovese, which can only be envied by neighboring Tuscany. In addition to Sangiovese-based reds, hyper-elegant and modern Dry Whites are made from the Albana grape and the sweet noble red wine Scaccomatto is also made from Albana, which has several times garnered the highest awards in Italy. Since 1987, Christina Geminiani has been in charge and her sensitive approach to wine has probably been one of the contributing reasons why Zerbina ranks in the top 100 of the best wine houses in Italy according to Gambero Rosso. A total of approx. 220,000 fl. Wine from this top property per year, on top of that in a price range where everyone can join in and luckily the wine from Emilia-Romagna is still very underrated, and not at all maligned like the famous Lambrusco from Reggia!!
The cities of Bologna, Padua, Modena, Parma and Cesena provide areas for some of the most famous food and gastronomy producers. in Italy: Parma ham, Parmagiano Reggiano, Balsamico, Bolognese sauce and Mortadella sausage. For many years, Emilia has had the most Michelin stars in the motherland, and is rightly called the "belly of Italy". Luciano Pavarotti was born in Modena, and no one doubted that he did not forsake the area's local products and gastronomy. After his death, the mayor of Modena ordered that the opera house in the city should be named after Pavarotti. So remember, in addition to the wine, it really is a region where you get really good food and culture for the money!
