2018 Dominus has been named wine of the year in 2021 by the renowned wine tasting, Wine Spectator. In addition, the wine has received 100 points from several renowned wine writers and 99+ from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
Dominus Estate, located in Yountville California, was founded in 1983 by Christian Moueix and is today part of the very famous winery, Napanook. In the 1940s and 1950s, Napanook grapes were the cornerstones of the best vintages of the fantastic Inglenook wines. In fact, the winery's history can be traced all the way back to the founding of the Napa Valley wine region in 1838. It was George Yount who planted the first vines, and the town is today named after him.
Today, 3 different red wines are produced at the vineyard. Dominus (which is the winery's flagship), the 2nd wine Napanook and the 3rd wine Othello.
To emphasize Christian Moueix's great and long-standing commitment to the area, he chose the name Dominus, which in Latin means "property of the Lord". With values such as quality, management, tradition and innovation, the team behind Dominus tries to express this unique terroir.
The vineyard is "dry-farmed", which means that no artificial irrigation is used. In this way, the roots of the vines are forced to penetrate deep into the unique soil. The entire vinification takes place with minimal intervention and great restraint compared to e.g. selection of grapes, fermentation and aging. This results in a mighty wine with great complexity, balance and not least personality, deeply rooted in this fantastic area. A wine that also has huge storage potential.
The vineyard is 42 ha and all the grapes for Dominus are harvested from our own vineyards. The soil consists of gravel and clay. The harvest takes place by hand, where the grapes on the sunniest fields are harvested a few days before the fields with more shade.
Due to the strict enforcement of Napa County regulations, today is closed to the public.
