Pol Roger Champagne was the late Sir Winston Churchill's favorite brand. "I am always content with the best" or: "I cannot live without champagne. In Victory I deserve it, in defeat I need it”. Winston Churchill was so fond of POL ROGER Champagne that he named his racehorse after his favorite champagne. He could not do without the horse or the champagne. He became a close friend of the house and at his statesman's funeral in 1965, only one private person attended the ceremony, namely Odette Pol Roger, then director of the house.
Churchill's enthusiasm does not come out of nowhere. If you compare the Cuveé of the big champagne houses against Pol Roger's, Pol Roger is clearly at the top. Dry, full-bodied and elegant with a long aftertaste, which at other houses you have to go to Vintage level to find an equivalent.
Pol Roger owns approx. 85 ha of vineyards with vines of exceptionally fine quality, both at Cru, Premier Cru and Grand Cru level.
For the Vintage vintages, only grapes from Premier Cru and Grand Cru are used, while the top-of-the-line, Sir Winston Churchill Cuvée, is produced exclusively from Grand Cru fields.
The house has cellar facilities in 3 levels 33 meters below the surface, extending 7 km underground and considered to be among the coolest and deepest cellars in the entire region.
It is in this darkness and in this silence that the great transformation takes place. The constant temperatures of the cellar rooms (9.5º) are an incomparable advantage when it comes to developing the exceptional champagne from Pol Roger.
With "only" around 6 million bottles in stock (equivalent to approx. 5 years of sales), the house is one of the smallest large houses in Champagne.
Pol Roger champagne is synonymous with elegance, quality and refinement. As one of the most prestigious champagne houses in the world, Pol Roger has established itself as a symbol of luxury and celebration.
