Magpie Estate was founded in 1993 when Noel Young - a wine merchant in Cambridge with a penchant for Rhône Valley wines - contacted Rolf Binder, his supplier of Australian wines, to see if he could create a unique wine that combined the best from the Rhône Valley with the Barossa Valley's fantastic climate.
The collaboration quickly came to fruition, and together they developed a philosophy of creating wines that not only looked good in blind tastings, but also tasted fantastic with food.
Since then, the collaboration has developed from making only one basic wine to a larger range with as many as 11 different wines, distributed over a total production of 6,000 cases
