Venge Vineyards Venge Vineyards is a vineyard founded by a true Danish pioneer in California, Knud Venge, who emigrated from Denmark at the beginning of the 20th century. The son Per later founded the company Vencom which imported wine and spirits from Europe.
In the 1960s, the third generation, Nils, completed his studies at UC Davies and started as an oenologist at Sterling Vineyards in Calistoga. In 1971 he became Villa Mount Eden's first Winemaker, starting with the purchase of vineyards and the sale of grapes, to finally establish their own, Venge Vineyards.
Today, it is Nils' son Kirk who has full control over the winemaking. In other words, it is one of California's most experienced teams behind the wines here.
Scout's Honor Red Blend
This is a great wine in every way! A blend of Zinfandel, Petite Syrah, Charbono and Syrah. Aged for a short time in American oak, but mainly used French casks. Layer upon layer of black and light fruits, spice, licorice, olives and black pepper. Unbelievably full of flavor with acid and tannin in perfect balance, which ends in a very long and delicious aftertaste. A wine of this top quality must be experienced!
Robert Parker: " A wine that I love, and a super bargain, is their Scout's Honor. A blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, and Petite Sirah, with a small amount of Charbono thrown in, this is one heck of a seductive wine that continues to be the kind of wine you wish more California wineries would make. Deep bluish/plum/purple, with an explosively aromatic nose of sweet roasted herbs and black and red cherries intermixed with blackberry, licorice, pepper, and floral notes, this wine has loads of fruit, an opulent, voluptuous mouth-feel, superb purity and texture, and a full-bodied finish.” Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate
