Gin Mare is an innovation within the gin category. All Gin Mare's ingredients are sourced around the Mediterranean. With Gin Mare, they have combined the six traditional gin ingredients: juniper berries, coriander seeds, cardamom, lemon peel, orange peel and tangerine peel with the four local Mediterranean ingredients rosemary, basil, thyme and the local olive variety Arbequina.
The use of local Mediterranean herbs sets the gin apart from all other products on the market. One can easily imagine drinking Gin Mare gin as a gin and tonic for the Spanish tapas table, instead of cava.
Gin Mare is produced by the Giró Ribot owned Destilerias MG in a small disused chapel in the Catalan fishing town of Vilanova i la Geltrú, just 50 kilometers south of Barcelona. The chapel originally stood by the beach and was used by fishermen to pray before they set off on their long fishing trips. In the 18th century, the monks moved the chapel further towards the city to the land the Giró Ribot family has owned since 1950.
