Just 10 years ago, Apulia was not an area known to ordinary Danes, and if you go back 10 years further, the wine production in this area was extremely modest and not something worth drinking compared to the rest of the country.
Fortunately, the changes in Apulia have had a strong impact, and today almost everyone has tasted wine from this area.
The area has the advantage of its ideal soil consisting of both lime and iron, as well as the warm winds from the northern Sahara, which periodically leave sand on and between the vines. This contributes to making the wine almost overseas, with rich fruit and soft tannins.
Primitivo, which corresponds to the Californian Zinfandel, is probably the most well-known grape. However, the main grape is from the Negroamaro area.
