Bollinger champagne was founded in 1829 by Paul Renaudin, Hennequin de Villermont and Jacques Bollinger (hence the name). The company is today owned by the Bollinger family, and is one of the last large family-owned champagne houses left.
At Bollinger, you still go to great lengths to live up to the very highest quality requirements that the founders of the company had back in the 1800s. Bollinger has always been associated with good, stable high quality, but after the Bollinger family took over 100% of the company, the focus was really put on the fact that quality was the highest priority, and investments were therefore made in the best vineyards in the area. Bollinger owns 170 ha of its own fields, of which 85 are 1.cru and Grand Cru. Bollinger's Special Cuvee contains as high a proportion of grapes as 80% from 1.cru and Grand cru fields.
One of the most used quotes in the wine world was this one from Madame Lily Bollinger: “I drink Champagne when I'm happy. I also drink it when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone; and when I am with others I consider it absolutely necessary. I sip it when I'm not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it - except when I'm thirsty.” Lily Bollinger took over the management of the house in 1941. Throughout all these years, Bollinger has managed to maintain the high quality, and still does to this day. Bollinger's champagnes always achieve marks at the top end, from the trade press worldwide.
Not to be forgotten is Bollinger's involvement in the James Bond universe, where Bollinger is Agent 007's favorite champagne since 1973 – Especially the prestige cuvee RD This happens both in the slightly older films, but also in newer films such as Skyfall.
