Ribera del Duero is the epicenter of modern Spanish winemaking. Ribera del Duero is located in northern Spain at an altitude of 700-850m above sea level. This means that the temperature is high during the day and low at night, which helps to preserve the taste and aroma of the grapes.
Although the most famous red wine Vega Sicilia has a share of Cabernet & Merlot, it is Tempranillo that is dominant. The soil in the area is challenging for viticulture, but limestone makes it easier to preserve the valuable and rare rainfall in this very dry region.
The wines are intense in color and have a lovely freshness.
The most used classifications within Ribera del Duero are:
Roble: Min 12 months aging of which min 6 months in barrel; Crianza: Minimum 24 months aging of which min 12 months in cask and finally Riserva: Min 36 months aging of which min 18 months in cask.
