Chateau de Buxy - Laurent Cognard

Until 1997, Laurent Cognard's parents sold the wine produced to a local co-operative, which was quite common in Burgundy at the time. But after Laurent took over the helm of the family Domainet in the same year, he started selling the wines under his own name.

Initially as a half-day job combined with a job as a salesperson in the wine industry. But from 2006 as a full-time job 24/7 and since with greater and greater success.

Today, the domain stretches from the southern border of Beaune and a further 25 km south, with a total area of ​​10.5 ha spread over communes such as Montagny, Mercurey and Pouilly Loché.

The specialty of the property (and the area in general) is the white wines, which for the price cannot be surpassed by the more famous municipalities to the north. The crispness and elegance of Chardonnay comes from a soil with lime stone, marl and clay, as you also see in the famous Côtes de Beaune, but here typically at prices 50% below these wines.

80% of the wines go through aging in a mixture of 228l and 500l casks, primarily used for, as he himself says: " We're not trying to make bodybuilder wines here, our goal is to make wines you can drink."

Both in the glass and in the mouth, the wines also express a clear purity, freshness and a combination of fruit and minerality.
