Bordeaux 2018 - a very exciting vintage

When the year started, there was no indication that 2018 would bring anything good. After a very wet winter, the wet weather continued into the spring and with it, i.a. the fear of widespread coulure. Coulure occurs in particularly unfavorable weather conditions, and means that the bunches will lack berries, as the flowering fails.

Further on, however, the spring became milder and drier and the flowering took place quickly and evenly, far beyond expectations in many places. Unfortunately, the rain returned and it rained quite a bit until the beginning of July, and then what was to become the year's big challenge arose; Mildew! In the vineyards that are hardest hit, this has meant a reduced yield of ml. 15 and 20%. But after that it just goes away with 3 fantastic months of uninterrupted sun until the beginning of October. Therefore, the farms were given the opportunity to choose the optimal picking time. when you reached September, -something you are certainly not used to in Bordeaux!

So right now the jungle drums are booming from the biggest reviewers in the world, who proclaim the vintage to be one of the last 50 or so. on top of that, 100 years of the best!! In reviewer Neal Martin's absence, the colleagues have also offered several 100-point ratings from the Primeur tastings.
We have recently tasted great Pomerol and St. Emilions from JP Moeuix, and several of those wines most likely land ml. 97 and 100 p. But there is great disagreement!
