BULL

We are happy and proud to have Bolla on the shelves as the only ones in Denmark.

The winery is located in the town of Pedemonte, just a stone's throw north of Verona (as a real estate agent would put it) and makes absolutely fantastic wines of very high quality.

We have long been looking for a house with Bolla's quality and can now finally present the wines to our customers.

Bolla is the oldest Amarone house, established in 1883 and for many years was considered by far the best Amarone house.

After the house died in the success, it was taken over by new owners at the beginning of the 00s, who also brought a new winemaker/cellar master with them. All with the sole purpose of bringing the house back to its former strength and reputation.

And to that extent it must be said to have succeeded. Insanely good Amarone wines, which now come together with very affordable everyday wines, which taste far more than the price suggests.

"La Poiane" is a bird of prey that is often seen in the vineyards of the area and is living proof of an unspoiled and vital environment where the vineyards and forest areas are close to each other. The wine is made from the grapes grown in our hillside vineyards in Valpolicella Classica, selected for more than twenty vintages, which are the best expression of the fruit and the elegance of the tannins. Vinification is the traditional Veronese Ripasso technique, but interpreted in a modern tone.

Made from Corvina and Corvinone, Rondinella... The grapes are handpicked at the end of September and fermented for a second time in the winter on Amarone and Recioto skins.

The soil is marshal stone with lots of clay and gravel. The vines are grown on well-planned, sunny terraces with typical dry stone walls, called "marogne" in the local dialect, which are hand-built walls of limestone, and which have left their mark on this wine-growing area and the wine landscape.

Harvested in mid-September. The grapes for Amarone are handpicked and no more than 40% of the bunches on each vine are harvested for drying. The other bunches are left to mature on the vine for another 20 days until early October, when they are handpicked and fermented into Valpolicella Classico Superiore, the base wine of Le Poiane.

In February, the dried grapes are brought to the cellar and fermented to produce Amarone, the skins of which were then mixed with the Valpolicella wine to produce this Ripasso thanks to a second alcoholic fermentation. Second fermentation of Valpolicella on sweet must soaked in Amarone improves the color, structure and aromas of the wine.

After the alcoholic fermentation, the wine is moved partly to small French and American oak barrels, some new and some second time, partly to larger wooden barrels. Aging in wood lasts 18 months until blending, which takes place a few months before bottling. The maturation requires a further 3 months in the bottle.

Nice intense black berries on the nose, with vanilla and spice notes. The loving taste offers notes of red berries and cherries, followed by a long, spacious finish. ABV 13.50%.

AGEING POTENTIAL 7 years in bottle lying horizontally in a dark place, at the right temperature and humidity.
