In Beaujolais, only one grape is allowed to be used to make red wine, namely Gamay. The subsoil contains a lot of granite, which is ideal for the Gamay grape. The grapes are hand-picked at the beginning of September. After fermentation, the wine is stored in large tanks, whereby the wine retains its fine fruit.

The area is especially known for Beaujolais Noveau, where the young wine from Beaujolais is celebrated on the third Thursday in November. It is the first French vintage to be released after a rapid fermentation of the fresh Gamay grapes.

Beaujolais Noveau became particularly well-known here at the end of the 80s, when racing driver Thorkild Thyrring - under a political license - drove the first bottles to Denmark.
