Venge Vineyards is a vineyard founded by a true Danish pioneer in California, Knud Venge, who emigrated from Denmark at the beginning of the 20th century. The son Per later founded the company Vencom which imported wine and spirits from Europe. In the 1960s, the third generation, Nils, completed his studies at UC Davies and started as an oenologist at Sterling Vineyards in Calistoga. At Groth winery, he was behind the first 100 point cabernet from Napa. In 1971 he became Villa Mount Eden's first Winemaker, starting with the purchase of vineyards and the sale of grapes, to finally establish their own Venge Vineyards in 1992. Today it is Nils' son Kirk who has full control over the winemaking. In other words, it is one of California's most experienced teams behind the wines here.
