The story of the founder Don Juancho

According to the testimonies of his descendants, in the late 19th century the founder Don Juancho Nieto Meléndez had a burning passion to explore the sources and processes used to make the many tempting varieties of traditional drinks.

He was fascinated by the complexity of the many environmental factors that affect the production process of rum, such as the weather and humidity in the tropics. His impressive collection of drinks became quite famous and he came to be known among his friends as "The Ambassador's Reserves", a clear reference to his class and great interest.

Don Juancho carefully studied the production methods used when he was employed in Jamaica, which at that time set the world standard for the production of rum.

He drew inspiration from the islands of the Antilles and discovered and improved many of their distillation and storage secrets. Over time, his secret and clever combinations of ingredients, barrels and honey produced the robust and complex product that Don Juancho Meléndez had always sought.

The result was a rum that combined a character and body with irresistible and subtle aromas and at the same time expressed his tireless search for a taste that would capture the world under the name Ron Diplomático.
His death in the last century does not mean the end of his legacy. Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva is today one of Venezuela's proudest and most awarded rums.
