Fleurie, Ropiteau Frères

Fleurie - also called the "Queen of Beaujolais" is the most famous of the ten Beaujolais Crus. Fleurie has probably the most beautiful name for an appellation in France (it means blooming). The wine area includes approx. 800 ha of vineyards, has an exceptionally good cooperative and produces wines with a particularly distinctive floral aroma. Ropiteau Frères is located in Meursault and produces wines from Burgundy, Rhône and Beaujolais.

In Beaujolais, only one grape is allowed to be used to make red wine, namely Gamay. The subsoil contains a lot of granite, which is ideal for the Gamay grape. The grapes are hand-picked at the beginning of September. After fermentation, the wine is stored in large tanks, whereby the wine retains its fine fruit.

Fleurie is the most feminine of the Beaujolais. The color is cherry. Bouquet is floral with notes of raisins and spice. The taste is well balanced and soft with cherry and apple.

Serving temperature: 13-15 ⁰ .

It should be mentioned that in Berlingske Tidende in December 2000 Fleurie achieved 5* out of 5 (as the only one) and was thus named the best Beaujolais in the test.
