Magpie Estate is a Joint Venture between the winemaker Rolf Binder and the English wine merchant Noel Young. Both have a great passion for the grapes from the Rhône – grapes which, after all, have the best conditions for producing great wines in the Barossa.
Which wines are produced in the individual vintages can easily vary, as you only send the best of the best to the market - if the grapes are not of high quality, then you better skip the vintage.

Aging Potential We have made this wine to be immediately appealing. It should however flesh out in the bottle and provide more complexity in the short term. As it's under screw cap it should remain fresh for 3-4 years.

Food Matching. Very much made with Asian food in mind. A perfect compliment to light-medium spiced dishes. Also crisp enough to provide excellent al fresco drinking with or without food.

The second release of our Gewurztraminer. It's a style of wine we really enjoy so we found a suitable higher altitude vineyard in the north of the Barossa-in Moculta. Hand harvested late February. Cool fermented and bottled relatively early to keep all its aromatics. It's an off-dry style with around 7 grams per liter of residual sugar. Perfumed with lychee, citrus and a touch of musk on the nose. Fairly crisp for Gewurztraminer on the palate, tangy with honeyed lychee and citrus. Finishes with clean acidity. Really appealing and great with lots of Asian dishes.
