The legend of the origin of Pineau des Charentes is told from several different sources. In the 16th century, a vintner accidentally poured unfermented grape juice into a dish that still contained some cognac. Therefore, the contents of the cask would not ferment, and the disappointed and irritated vintner put the cask deep in the cellar.
When he tasted the contents a few months later, he was pleasantly surprised. This gave rise to Pineau des Charentes, which may only be produced in the area around Cognac.
"A soft, sweet, not too alcoholic cognac liqueur. Some people call it a 'ladies' cognac'."

The house's pineau des charentes consists of grande champagne 1er cru and grape juice from their old Colombard vines. Great for dessert or good French cheeses.
